The Beginning
How one Man and Woman's Dream became Reality!!!!!!!!
Hello!!! I'm
gonna give you the History behind "The Wagon Wheel"
In 1998, Ray and Norma Reed bought a piece of land
on Pinnacle Creek, WV. The area was rough and weeds and brush had taken over everything, but one look at the area they had
just purchased, and they were ready to leave they're beautiful home on Macajah Ridge where they had called home for 20 yrs
or so. It wasn't easy. They had to move a small trailer to the area in hopes to get electricity put in. Well, that trailer
was burned to the ground by unknown persons. So, another was brought in. This time the trailer had to be lived in (without
power or running water) so that the same thing wouldn't happen again. Finally, the electricity was put in and the water and
septic was run and phone was put in, but things were still kinda tough for this new found area.
Now, Ray and Norma
had to see what they could do about getting the road in shape. The drain pipes were washed out and the road was almost unpassable
unless you had a 4-wheel drive. So, phone calls began to the State about the road. "This is a state road and should be
maintained likewise",says Norma. The roads were fixed.
Next, getting the school bus to pick up the kids who's
family's have moved to the area. Well, once again the phone calls began to the required sources and, to make a long story
short, again, Norma got her way and the bus was being brought in.
So now back to 1998!!! Ray and Norma had this
idea to open a small store, just for snacks and cold drinks for those who might wonder a little too far outside of civilization(lol).
It wasn't long before they decided, "why not sell hotdogs"? And boy were they good....Word soon got around about
the "New Place In Town". A perfect place to ride 4-wheelers and stop in for lunch.
A year later
a Dining Room was added, a Kitchen next, bathrooms, another Dining Room, and then a larger kitchen, Shower rooms were put
in, and Gas was being brought in.
Finally, Ray and Norma decided it was time to build their Home above the (by
now) state wide known business---Wagon Wheel.
Ray now has cabins that he rents out just across the creek from
the "Wheel" and he has a Cottage that is under construction now and will soon be available to rent. He also has
plans in the near future for his own Campgounds.
New business' have opened in the area since "The Wagon Wheel"
and all have done well. Today Wagon Wheel is known all over the U.S. and we are very proud of that fact. Hundreds of people
come each week to visit and enjoy what Ray and Norma have created and I am very proud to be a part of that. Wagon Wheel is
a Family business and we consider everyone a Friend.
So, stop by anytime you are in the Neighborhood and expect
nothing less than friendly hospitality and some of the very best eatin' in the area.
I hope You have enjoyed this
Heartwarming Saga of how two people (My Mom and Dad) have made their dreams come true and how they give us all hope that good
